The album title is inspired from henna “Rhenni“. Historically, henna was used for cosmetic purposes in north Africa by the Amazigh women when celebrating traditions such as marriage. The weeding party used to be an occasion where the girls of the village meet to sing dance and tell Izran (poetry), which is an oral tradition characterized by improvisation. Thidrin is one of the unique bands that tries always to open the Amazigh traditional music on other international styles to promote it to the world stage.

Imetlaa had also worked on a second project called “Imetlaa bridges the gap between traditional and contemporary music” . This came as a collaboration with Tharwa N Shikh Mohend who are considered to be the only keepers of the traditional Rifian music and INtersection, a Dutch Amazigh band that sings in Dutch, Tamazight and English.

To keep their progressive success, this time Imetlaa has come up with a new project and a festival that is entitled “the female Voice of North African Origins”. They are going to perform with the talented Amsterdam Jazz singer Amina Dainan who tries for the first time singing North African songs. In addition, they are going to close the ceremony by performing with the legend of Rif music Milouda, who will come straight from Belgium especially for this event.

Imetlaa has worked together with the previously mentioned female artists in order to be dedicated to the North African woman in general and the Rifian woman in particular. The latter, is believed to be the transmitter and the fertilizer of Rifian cultural heritage from generation to another.

Midden in de Afrikaanse wijk van Brussel huist een bevlogen organisatie van wereld- en volksmuziekminnaars: Muziekpublique. Al 10 jaar verenigt Muziekpublique (let op de spelwijze) een verdeeld land met muziek uit zowel Vlaanderen als Wallonië en de hele wereld. In plaats van een taart met tien kaarsjes trakteert artistiek directeur Peter van Rompaey ons op artiesten die een bijzondere band hebben met zijn podium, label en interculturele ontmoetingsplek:
Mambu o.l.v. multi-instrumentalist Osvaldo Hernandez Napoles laat ons kennismaken met weinig bekende instrumenten uit Latijns-Amerika. Zoals de boleadoras, percussie en dans ineen, ontleend aan de jacht van de gaucho’s uit het noordwesten van Argentinië. En wat te denken van een ezelskaak waarop de bandleider een wel heel bijzonder ritmische wijze van tandenpoetsen loslaat?
Hans Mortelmans zingt in Antwerps dialect, een liedtraditie die nagenoeg is uitgestorven met het verscheiden van de illustere troubadour Wannes Van De Velde. Waar Wannes zich door de Spaanse flamenco liet betoveren, vindt ook Mortelmans inspiratie buiten het Vlaamse bolwerk: de Sinti-swing van Django Reinhardt en de melodieën van Georges Brassens klinken duidelijk door in het oeuvre van zijn Groep.
Berber-zanger en gitarist Khalid Izri kan in Marokko nauwelijks over straat, zo populair is hij. Bijgestaan door een percussionist en violist maakt hij zich in zijn teksten hard voor de rechten van de onderdrukte, oorspronkelijke bewoners van zijn land.

Le volet musical du festival ProPulse ouvre au public au Botanique en soirée de mercredi à samedi. En journée, les artistes se produisent uniquement face à des professionnels (programmateurs, organisateurs de festival, directeurs de centre culturel, etc.). Le volet arts de la scène est lui fermé au public. Ce festival est le successeur d’EntreVues et de la Boutik Rock.
